What we do

Most UK trades who go to Australia land with no plan, spend two or three weeks and a chunk of savings looking for work, then take whatever is left.

Builders and labour hire firms in South East Queensland told us the same thing: they are short of tradesmen, and the British lads they get are the ones who turned up at the office after they ran out of money.

We flip that. You talk to us in the UK, we check you out properly, and we get you in front of a firm that has work waiting. You know where you are going before you book the flight.

What you would earn

Straight numbers, because you will do the maths anyway. These are typical rates for a qualified carpenter in South East Queensland, not the best case.

About superannuation

Australian employers pay 12% on top of your wages into a retirement fund. It is not deducted from you, it is extra. When you leave Australia and your visa has expired you can claim it back, through what is called a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment.

Be aware that working holiday makers are taxed at 65% on the way out, so on a $4,000 balance you would see about $1,400. Still money you would not otherwise have, and most people never claim it at all.

We will tell you the actual rate for the actual job before you commit to anything.

Why Queensland, and why now

Queensland is about to build a lot of things at once. Construction Skills Queensland puts the state's construction pipeline at around $60 billion in 2025-26, rising to a peak of about $75 billion in 2027-28. Over the same period they forecast the industry will be short of roughly 35,000 workers at the peak.

Some of that is the 2032 Olympics. A 63,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park, athlete villages, transport. Around $11 billion of construction tied to the Games.

Be realistic about what that means for you. You are unlikely to be building the stadium. Those are big commercial sites with their own arrangements. What the Games do is pull tradesmen out of housing and onto the major projects, which leaves the residential builders and labour hire firms short. That is where the work is, and that is the gap you would be filling.

Where you would be

Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Winters where you work in a t-shirt, and a beach at the end of most days. Burleigh, Currumbin, Coolangatta, Byron an hour south. Most people who come out on a working holiday end up somewhere along that stretch.

How it works

  1. You register interestSix questions, two minutes. Nothing is committed at this point.
  2. We have a chatA video call to talk through what you do, what you are after, and when you could go. We check your trade qualification, call two people you have worked for, and have a look at your work.
  3. We line up the jobWe put you in front of a labour hire firm or builder in South East Queensland that needs carpenters. You get the rate, the type of work and the start date before you book anything.
  4. You fly, you startWe send you a first week checklist before you go: White Card, tax file number, bank account, super. Then we stay in touch for your first three months to make sure it is working out.

Who this is for

Open to all trades. Carpenters are what firms are asking us for most at the moment, so that is where we can move quickest, but bricklayers, plasterers, tilers, roofers, concreters and labourers are all worth registering. If you are something else, tell us what you do.

What it costs you

Nothing. Not now, not later, not a percentage of your wages.

The firm that takes you on pays us. That is the whole model. Charging you would be illegal in Queensland anyway, and we would not do it if it were not.

You still pay for your own visa, flight and first few weeks of living costs, the same as anyone going out on a working holiday. We do not take a cut of any of it.

Who is behind this

Ryan Bradley. I run a residential building contractor in the south of England, and I spent two working holiday years on the Gold Coast. I know what it is like to land in Australia with no plan.

NTK Crew is a UK company, and I am the one you will be talking to.

Questions people ask

Do I need a visa?

Yes. Most people go on a Working Holiday visa (subclass 417). We cannot advise on visas, and it would be an offence for us to try. The application is done online through the Australian Department of Home Affairs. If you want advice, use a registered migration agent.

Will I be working for you?

No. You will be employed and paid by an Australian firm. We introduce you, we do not employ you.

What if I get there and it is not right?

Tell us. We stay in touch for your first three months for exactly this reason, and we would rather move you than have you stuck.

Do I need my own tools?

Hand tools, yes. Power tools depend on the firm, and we will tell you before you go so you can decide what to bring and what to buy there.

Where will I live?

That is on you, but we will tell you what to expect on rent and where people tend to base themselves for the work you will be doing.
